|
ABOUT US |
|
The Cape Western branch of the Railway Society of Southern Africa meets on the first Tuesday of each month, except January, at the club house of the Western Cape Live Steamers in Parow, at 19:30 where members enjoy a programme of lectures, films, videos, slides, discussions and other items of railway interest. The Society has a very comprehensive library of books which is available for loan by members. This operates from 18:30 to 19:15 before each monthly meeting. The Society organizes special trains five to six times a year to give the opportunity for family outings by rail to nearby destinations, such as the Hopefield Wild Flower show and the Riebeek Valley Olive Festival. The journal of the Society, S.A. Rail, is available to members. This well produced magazine is published four times a year and is filled with articles, photographs and information regarding the railways in Southern Africa and elsewhere. It is the leading magazine of its type published in South Africa. Our activities are aimed at being a social society for our members as well as involvement in the preservation steam locomotives, vintage coaches and wagons etc. in other words vintage railway item preservation. |
